Ironically this wedding reception was also at the Little Log Cabin in Hastings, same as last weekends.  That is definitely a blessing since you know the set up of the venue and are able to lay out a blue print of what you want to do much easier than the first time around.

So in walk Jessica and Luke...  A wonderful bubbly couple who were such great clients.  The ceremony took place at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Hastings.  The church was pleasantly lighted which is always a welcomed surprise.  The ceremony went smoothly and I adored the bell choir that played throughout the processional.  You can see a glimpse of them in the promo.  

Overall I don't think I have laughed so much at a reception.  They had some pretty comical guests and very outspoken dances.  I know it is going to make for an amazing finished product.  All in all one remarkable day that I already wish I could relive!

I remember playing baseball with Pat back in the day.  If you would have told me I'd be shooting his wedding  back then I would have thought you were crazy!  It just so happens that it ended up being true and I couldn't be happier.  What a wonderful couple these two are not only on camera but in daily life.  You can see the love they have for one another is totally genuine.  The pinnacle of that relationship happened on April 21st.

It's always nice to shoot a wedding when you grew up with the couple.  Seeing people you know at the wedding always helps to relieve any nervousness you may have during the day.  I felt right at home capturing the day with them.  The Little Log Cabin turned out to be a great place to shoot since there were so many interesting back drops, so many in fact that we couldn't even get to them all!

Their wedding trailer was also my most viewed wedding video in a day to date.  Thanks to everyone who loved it and I can't wait for you two to see the final product!

 

Eric | Melanie | 3/10/12

My previous posts were about how I had hoped for some snow on the wedding day of Eric and Melanies...  that turned out to be far from the outcome.  The weather was in the 60's yet it was very windy.  I had lost my vision of a full fledged winter wedding but in all honesty the warm weather didn't affect much as most of the shooting was all indoors.  The Hilton in Bloomington did a great job with making the ceremony look and feel unlike a hotel wedding.  Most hotel weddings can be very "plain" but this one was definitely dressed up to the part.  All in all it was a great shoot with my new equipment, mainly the Merlin Steadicam.  You can notice some of the shots that are crystal smooth are the outcome of the Merlin.  One fantastic device I would recommend to any film maker.  

 

Interested in Pinterest?

I've heard so many people talking about what Pinterest is and to be honest I had absolutely no interest in it up until a few days ago.  I thought the site was nothing but women posting pictures of hair styles they wanted or recipes they wanted to make... not for your typical male.  Well, I gave it a go a few days ago and found that I could add wedding ideas for my clients.  As soon as I figured that out I was sold.  So I gave in to yet another social media website (if there aren't enough already).  But this one actually lets me communicate and display the things that my clients may find useful.

Winter gone awry?

So we were suppose to get this huge, massive storm Tuesday-Wednesday... but now they are saying only 3-6 inches down from over a foot!? Man, this Winter sure has taken a course I've never seen to be honest.  I look out my front door and see about an inch of the white fluffy stuff covering the grass with a sigh on my face.  Some of the weddings I shot that were late in the season even were missing that snow factor the brides were going for.  Snow definitely can make pictures and video look wonderful for a wedding.  I'm still holding out hope that possibly we get some snow on my upcoming wedding.  I don't know if Melanie feels the same way but I have yet to capture a "Winter" wedding if you will; one filled with snow, cold weather, breath showing, etc. 

Only two weeks till I'm back in full wedding mode and I can't wait.  This slight break has been very relaxing but at the same time I love what I do so I can only be away from it for so long.  I've also picked up the Merlin Steadicam which is a wonderful cinematic tool.  It will give my videos even more fluidity than they had before. 

I have a lot to look forward too... new brides, new equipment, new ideas, and new experiences.

Freedom February

I've caught up on all my projects, everything is editing, written, shipped.  For this month and this month only I have nothing to work on as far as wedding projects go.  So I'm using this time to scout new equipment for the upcoming season and possibly take a vacation in March.  Colorado has been calling my name for years now so this year it should actually happen.  

I'm excited for the new equipment I have on my purchase list.  I think they will take my videos to a new level and I hope you all will be able to notice the difference.  I bought a Fender Telecaster and started teaching myself guitar.  I can play some quality tunes and seem to be picking it up rather well.  Keeps me busy until the season kicks in!  I know this is short and sweet but I figured I'd let you all know what I'm up too.

My first wedding of 2012 was also the soonest I've ever booked a wedding before.  Only a week before the wedding Brita called me asking if I was available.  I'm not going to lie it definitely made me feel a little rushed but I quickly turned my way of thinking around to something more positive.... A WINTER WEDDING!  Not just a Winter wedding but also a wedding that included the St. Paul Hotel and Lakewood Center, two great places to shoot at.  My only complaint was that the lighting for the ceremony was bright red.  Yes, I said bright red!  A tip for ceremony lighting that you're photographer will also thank you for is to keep it as natural as possible.  Any non-white colors that are thrown into the mix can drastically alter the outcome.  Thankfully that is what we have editing programs for so I should be able to work around it.  Overall Brita and John's wedding was a great day filled with emotion and love.

On another note it was also the first time the bride's father has called me personally to thank me for a job well done.  There is nothing better than hearing praise about your work!  Enjoy!

 

I Wish...

I feel like it's been awhile since I've opened up about my feelings towards certain things and what not.  I got to thinking tonight about past clients.  My mind started wandering at my other job about everyone.  I imagined having a big reunion party with every couple I've ever worked with.  Seeing everyone laughing and talking about there videos and comparing weddings to one another while making new friends in the process.  When I finally came too and realized what I was thinking about it made me realize how great every couple has been and how much I wish we could all get together for a night of conversation.  I wonder frequently about what you all are up too.  What I am basically saying is that I'd love for any of you to shoot me an email sometime just to say hi.  I know you are thinking "well why haven't you reached out".  I honestly just don't know what couples would rather not hear from me and what ones would.  I'd be up for having dinner or coffee with any of you.  It's nice to call you friends instead of just "clients".

So basically I'm just wishing everyone is well and that hopefully some of us can meet up again in the future.  You've all been the best clients a business could ask for!

Chris | Sigourney | 12/30/11

Where do I start with this wedding?  First off... the venue was beyond beautiful.  The 50th floor of the IDS Tower was elegantly arranged in the finest way possible.  The view was amazing to say the least.  I've never shot a wedding in a high profile skyscraper before and hopefully this wedding won't be my last!  Beyond the IDS tower was, of course, the couple... Chris and Sigourney.  I knew Sigourney growing up as my cousin was her maid of honor.  She is a such a sweet and down to earth person it's easy to see why Chris took her off the market.  Immediately you could see that these two had a great connection especially during the first look.  Both of them lit up like pinball machines when they caught eye of one another.  We walked around for photos throughout Minneapolis and the city provided a great backdrop for the video.  Minneapolis can be such an elegant place when you find the right locations.  I'm so glad I had the opportunity to work with Chris and Sigourney.  The both looked so nature on camera that I hope more couples are as easy to shoot as they were.  Enjoy the video!

 

Thanks for 2011 Contest

First off...  I just want to say thank you to every single couple I've worked with this past year.  It was so great to witness you all get married and be apart of your special day.  I hope I can see all of you in the future!  This year was a grind since I had 24 weddings to shoot.  2010 I think I only had about 12 so I more than doubled my business in a year and 2012 looks to be swamped as well.  I wouldn't have it any other way however.  After all, this is my passion and love!

I decided awhile back that I was going to have a contest to see who could get the most likes for their video; that day is upon us.  As a special christmas gift I've giving a $50 gift card to Olive Garden for the winning couple.  My hopes are that those two can have a wonderful dinner on me to celebrate the holidays.
